Why you need a dedicated clipper
Saving links in your browser creates a list no one reads. Bookmarks accumulate without context and without any way to search by meaning.
CleverNote’s Web Clipper sends content directly to your archive, where AI enriches the text, creates embeddings and links it to your other notes. Later, you can find the article by asking “what was that post about pricing I saved?” even without remembering exact words from the title.
Installing the extension
- Install the CleverNote extension in your browser (Chrome, Edge or another Chromium-based browser)
- The CleverNote icon appears in your toolbar
Connecting your account
Connecting is a single click, with nothing to copy or paste:
- Click the extension icon in your browser
- Click Connect
- The CleverNote page opens (you are already logged in) and asks you to Authorize
- The extension receives and stores access on its own
Done. You don’t need to log in to the extension again. (Pasting a token manually exists only as a fallback.)
Three ways to capture
1. Save the entire page
With the extension installed, visit any page and click the CleverNote icon. The extension captures the title, URL and main content of the page (article text, without navigation or ads).
2. Save a selected excerpt
Select any text on the page with your mouse. Right-click and choose Save selection to CleverNote. Only the selected text is sent, along with the source URL as reference.
3. Quick popup
Click the extension icon to open the popup. It has a Save this page button (plus the current selection, if you have text highlighted).
What happens after clipping
The note created by the clipper goes through the same enrichment pipeline as any note:
- Title extracted or generated automatically
- Category and tags assigned by AI
- Entities mentioned in the text extracted (people, companies, dates)
- Embeddings created for semantic search
If the article mentions someone already in your archive, CleverNote will suggest linking them.
Managing your connections
You can have more than one active connection (one per browser). Revoke any of them in Settings → Connected Apps.
When you revoke, that connection stops working immediately. To use the extension on that browser again, just connect once more.
Usage tips
For research and references: select specific excerpts rather than clipping entire pages. This way your semantic search returns the relevant passage, not the generic page.
For tracking service providers: save profile pages (Google Business, LinkedIn, provider’s website) so CleverNote can extract contact info and link it to the person’s record.
For meeting prep: before a meeting, save the LinkedIn profile or company website. Then ask CleverNote “what do I know about [name]?” for a summary.
