Birthdays with context: check the reminder that repeats every year

Remembering a birthday becomes more useful when the date comes with context: whose birthday it is, how you met or an idea for a message you would like to revisit. The note keeps that context; the reminder helps you return to it at the time you choose.

In the web version of CleverNote Notes, Every year lets you choose an annual repeat. The same cadence appears in the reminder details, so you can check what you are scheduling before relying on the alert.

Keep the date and the reason together

Start with a note you will understand next year. This example is entirely fictional:

Lia’s birthday is November 17. We met at the book club. I want to send a message asking how the pottery workshop she mentioned went.

The name and date identify the occasion. The rest gives you a starting point for a conversation without requiring you to remember every detail yourself. Write only what you know and update the context when circumstances change.

If CleverNote suggests a reminder from the note, review the date, time and repetition before enabling it. A suggestion does not mean every date mentioned becomes an alert, or that you chose the suggested time.

Create an annual reminder explicitly

You can also set the alert manually. In Reminders:

  1. Open New reminder or event.
  2. Write a recognizable title, such as “Lia’s birthday, book club”.
  3. Choose the first occurrence’s date and the time you want the reminder. Check the time zone.
  4. Under Repeat, choose Every year.
  5. Review the fields and select Create.

For the fictional example, you could choose November 17, 2026, at 9 a.m. That date is the starting point for the annual series. The title helps you find the context note, even when you created the reminder separately from it.

If the screen shows an existing reminder on the same date, check whether it covers the same occasion before creating another. Sharing a date does not make two reminders duplicates.

Read the repeat setting in the details

Open the reminder and look for Repeats: every year below the date. This line distinguishes the annual series from a one-time alert. Check the time and any advance notice you chose too.

For a suggested reminder, review these details before using Enable alert. If a date, time or time zone decision is missing, complete what the screen asks for. Saving a note and enabling a reminder are separate steps.

This check is particularly useful when you recorded a date without explicitly writing “every year”. CleverNote’s interpretation remains something you can adjust.

Keep the cadence you want when editing

If you need to change the title or time, open Adjust time and check Repeat. An annual reminder should open with Every year selected, and that repetition is preserved when you save the edit.

After saving, reopen the details and confirm Repeats: every year. If you intended a single alert, deliberately choose Doesn’t repeat. Do not treat a change to the series as an exception for one birthday.

The reminder does not send the person a message or create an invitation for you. When the occasion arrives, return to your saved context and decide what makes sense to say then.

For notes that stay useful over time, see the decisions and next steps review and the guide to referrals with contact context.

Open CleverNote Notes and choose a special date to record with context and a repeat setting you have checked.
